Day Two Preview
Great Britain, Denmark, Sweden and France have the opportunity to clinch semi-final spots on day two of the 2019 IWRF European Championship Division A in Vejle, Denmark today.
All four nations posted wins on day one and don’t meet each other until day three of the tournament, meaning two wins from two will see them all safely through the pool phase regardless of the outcome of Friday’s matches.
Great Britain and Poland do battle in the first fixture of the day. The two-time defending champions took down Switzerland by 31 tries on day one and will look to produce a similar performance against Poland.
France and the Netherlands follow that clash, but, after a strong display against Sweden in the tournament opener, the Dutch have proven they won’t be pushovers.
Denmark will be out to build on its impressive day one outing against Poland when they meet the relatively inexperienced Switzerland squad. The hosts were able to manage minutes for a number of their big stars, including Sebastian Frederiksen, which should hold them in good stead for the Swiss clash.
Rounding out day two will likely be the match of the day between Sweden and Germany. The Germans pushed Pool A favourites France all the way, while Sweden had to overcome an early ambush from the Netherlands. Victory guarantees Sweden a place in the final four, but a German win will put them in the box seat for second place in the pool, with Sweden to meet France on Friday.
